Key to Somewhere Else

Description

Look what I found in my closet!

I don't know exactly what category this should be in, but back when I first read Charles DeLint's Spiritwalk, years and years ago, I went a little crazy with the 'heavily inspired' fanfiction. A big element in the those stories was the house of doors, each one leading to another time or place. Not terribly original, I realize, but I did actually make keys for some of them.

This was the key that unlocked the door to a Viking land of ice, wolves, and war. It even had a Norwegian-ish name, Fenridør, or something similar.

Elements are: a skeleton key from a junk box at a yard sale, a carved tooth/claw from the fur shop, a charm from some runic earrings I had that got broken and I never could throw away, and a bead I forgot that I had. I put it on a keychain ring, so it serves a purpose again.

I wonder if there's any more of these things around... might be time to clean the closet.

Hee hee it's inspiring! A physical artifact straight from the sub-universe! ( I still wear my seven metal bracelets on the right hand... hehe ) The house of doors reminds me of one of Edith Nesbit's books, there was an inter-world that looked like a grove with many ponds in it and every pond was a portal to a different world.
